High Density Interconnection (HDI) PCB is one of the fastest growing technologies in PCB. Due to its higher circuit density than conventional circuit boards, the HDI PCB design combines smaller through holes and capture boards as well as higher connection board density. HDI boards contain blind holes and buried holes and usually contain micro vias with diameters less than or equal to 0.006.

By using HDI technology, designers can now place more components on both sides of the original PCB as needed. Currently, with the development of via-in-board and blind-via technologies, designers can put smaller components close together, which means faster signal transmission and a significant reduction in signal loss and cross-delays. In the following section, we will be delineating some of the glaring benefits of employing HDI PCB.

Advantages of HDI PCB

Effectively reduces power usage hence, making way for a longer battery life of the powered devices.

It adjusts more elements even in that restricted area of the board as the HDI PCBs are more populated around the sides implying their denser trace routing.

Durable and bleak allowing multiplied strength and curbed perforations.

Quite unlike the traditional PCBs, in the HDIs, one can keep adding additional components as per requirements.

The PCBs are incredibly compact and light-weight.

Lightning-fast transmission of signals with improved signal quality.

Applications

HDI PCB is regularly found in mobile phones, touch-screen devices, laptop computers, digital cameras, 4G network communications, also prominently featured in medical devices.

Communications

Routers, semiconductors, switches, and modules rely heavily on HDI PCBs for their functionality. Particularly, if you encounter a computerized gadget, electronic communications, and radio-wave-based design, it is likely that they are using HDI boards. Additionally, audio and video devices make full use of the advantages of HDI PCB. These high-tech printed circuit boards open the door to pure networks consumed by commerce and basic communications.

Electronics

Without HDI PCB, the journey from the mainframe computer to the palm computer is impossible. Whether you accept it or not, at some point in our lives, we all wonder how a simple, compact gadget like a smart watch can accomplish all the functions of a smart phone and computer. Obviously, the answer is HDI. In addition to meeting the basic needs of smart phones, tablets, laptops and wearable devices, HDI PCBs have become the common name for the field of Internet-of-Things (such as refrigerators, smart TVs, thermostats) acquired for home.

Medical apparatus and instruments

The role of HDI PCB in expanding medicine cannot be overlooked. All the monitors you see in the hospital for imaging, monitoring, laboratory analysis, and surgery are driven by these PCBs. This high-density tool promotes performance upgrades for space-saving and cost-effective devices, proving to some extent the enhanced accuracy of medical testing and monitoring.

Automotive and Aerospace

If you look closely, you will see that majority of vehicles today run on computer-generated programs. At present, all the latest launches are equipped with about 50 microprocessors, which affect engine control, diagnosis, safety functionsand so on. The on-board GPS and Wi-Fi, backup sensors and rear-view mirrors too, take shelter under the utilities of the HDI PCB. In the current situation, one of the first things we can assure is that with the development of the automotive industry, the responsibility of HDI PCBs will become even greater.

Conclusion

It can be summarized that HDI PCBs are justifiably taking the industry by a storm and are being qualified as the undisputed alternatives of the long-established PCBs.
