           SMT patch foam, also known as SMT conductive foam, refers to a shielding material made by wrapping a conductive cloth on a flame-retardant sponge and processing it through a series of processes. SMT chip foam has advantages such as good conductivity, lightweight, oxidation resistance, and good shielding effect. It can be used in the production process of printed circuit boards, with electronic devices, electronic components, display devices, and other terminal products.


            Flame retardant sponge is the main substrate of SMT patch foam, usually made of raw materials such as ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) or polyurethane (PU). EPDM rubber has advantages such as good chemical stability and long service life, and the foam cotton made from it has excellent comprehensive performance. In recent years, driven by the national anti-dumping policy, the localization process of China's EPDM rubber market has accelerated, and the production has shown a continuous growth trend. In 2022, China's production of EPDM rubber reached 316000 tons, an increase of 5.1% year-on-year. Benefiting from the sufficient supply of raw materials, the development speed of China's SMT patch foam industry has further accelerated.


            As an EMI shielding material, conductive foam has excellent performance and is widely used in many fields, with intelligent wearable devices, mobile phones, tablets and other electronic devices as its main demand end. Benefiting from the acceleration of high-tech development such as 5G, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence, China's electronic equipment market space continues to expand, driving the increasing demand for conductive foam applications. In this context, SMT patch foam, as a segmented product in the conductive foam market, has continuously improved its industry prosperity.


             According to the "2023-2028 China SMT Chip Foam (SMT Conductive Foam) Industry Market Deep Research and Development Prospects Prediction Report" released by the Xinsijie Industry Research Center, SMT chip foam is mainly used in printed circuit boards (PCBs). In recent years, driven by positive factors such as national policy support and improved technological maturity, China's printed circuit board production capacity and output have continuously increased, accounting for nearly 60% of the global production capacity. SMT patch foam is soldered onto printed circuit boards, effectively shielding against electromagnetic interference. In the future, with the rapid development of industries such as electronic equipment, electronic components, and display devices, the demand for SMT chip foam in China will further increase.


             At present, the global SMT patch foam market is mainly concentrated in European and American countries, with well-known suppliers such as 3M Company in the United States, Rip Company in France, and Rogers Company in the United States. Compared with developed countries overseas, China's SMT foam technology is relatively backward, with fewer market participants. Guanshi Technology, Longyang Electronics, Sanhe New Materials, Feirongda, Zhuoyao Electronics, and other major suppliers in China.


              Industry analysts from Xinsijie stated that SMT chip foam is a segmented product of conductive foam, belonging to the electromagnetic shielding material. It is widely used in the production process of printed circuit boards. With the rapid development of downstream industries, its market demand continues to grow. However, currently, there is still a certain gap in the quality of SMT patch foam in China compared to developed countries overseas. Local enterprises urgently need to increase their research and development investment to further promote the market share of high-quality SMT patch foam
